12 common problems and solutions for yachts made of FRP
 
Commonly common problems with FRP are: cracking of the shell at the joint of the structure, leakage of water at the joint/opening, water seepage, foaming of the shell on the surface of the FRP hull, or black spots, bubbling on the deck, Cracking, leakage at the bottom of the ship, scratching and cracking during collision. And the color of the glass shell on the surface of the FRP is discolored and produces chromatic aberration. The reason may be negligence at the time of manufacture, or an abnormal condition of the FRP that occurs due to improper use.
    The cause of the problem and how to deal with it
    The problem often occurs on the FRP surface. The reasons and different treatment methods are as follows:
1. Color change, blistering and black spots of the surface rubber shell:
    Due to the instability of the curing agent ratio in the climate change at different time during partial repair, or the color difference of different batches of rubber shells will cause the color change (dark and pale chromatic aberration, yellowing) of the outer plastic shell in the future, especially in the dark glue. It is easy to happen on the shell.
The incomplete removal of tiny bubbles and dust particles during lamination can cause foaming and black spots in the outer shell.
Approach:
    a. Chromatic aberration; polish off the surface rubber shell, re-apply the same type of rubber shell, water mill to #1000 or more sandpaper and then polish and wax. The amount of curing agent added should be controlled during production and repair according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
    b. Foaming/black spots; chiseling the shell layer at the bubbling/black point, re-applying the same type of shell, grinding to #1000 or above and then polishing and waxing.
    c. If deep blistering or black spots; to dig through the bottom, then fill the recessed part with the felt and the laminated resin. After the curing is completed, reapply the same type of rubber shell, water mill to #1000 or above. The sandpaper is polished and waxed.
2. The joint between the hull and the deck is cracked:
    Mostly, accidental collisions during use will occur at the junction of the side (hull and deck).
    Approach:
    a. Partially small collision; remove the side fender bead. Renovate the FRP and re-fix it with structural glue and bolts before refining/repairing.
    b. Large collisions; please find a dealer to arrange professional repairs.
3. Cracking of the surface rubber shell at the joint of the hull, deck, flybridge and FRP components:
    Most of them occur in the joint between a single piece of FRP fittings such as stairs and Wet Bar and the deck body. Due to the combination of two FRP parts, the concave and convex corners are easily cracked at the surface rubber shell due to long-term use.
    Approach:
    Remove the thick surface of the shell layer, and use a felt cloth to add the layer of resin to reinforce. After curing, reapply the same type of shell, water-milled to #1000 or above and then polished and waxed.
4. Deck surface water:
    The stencil on the deck surface or the teak deck is poorly drained to produce localized water.
    Solution:
    a. Local water near the edge You can add a drain.
    b. Large area of accumulated water It is necessary to rearrange the surface floor drainage slope.
5. The bubbling of the dash on the deck and the cracking of the floor at the joint with the wall:
    The stencil bubbling is easy to occur after long-term use. The cracking of water at the junction is generally caused by poor construction.
Solution:
    a. Cut off the bubbling stop plate and replace it with the new pattern of the same pattern. Pay attention to the continuity of the pattern when repairing.
    b. Crack the accumulated water at the joint; cut the part of the cracked water and re-repair it.
6. Leakage at the opening of the large window and the FRP wall:
    The general cause is leakage caused by impacting large windows or poor construction.
    Solution:
    a. Leakage of large window deformation; replace with a new large window of the same model – please consult a dealer to arrange professional treatment.
    b. General leakage; first remove the wooden decorative bead in the cabin, re-compound and then re-install the decorative bead and repair it.
7. Leakage at the porthole opening and the FRP hull:
    Leakage due to poor construction.
    Solution:
    First remove the wooden decorative bead in the cabin, re-bond the rubber and then install the decorative bead and repair it.
8. Equipment installation opening and leakage of FRP/floor:
    Due to construction negligence, leakage at the joint of the hull/deck is often involved in the opening of various equipment installations, such as the inlet and outlet of the engine and the pulp shaft system, the generator inlet and outlet, the ship/stern thruster installation, and the associated oil circuit. / Circuit / drain pipe, stabilizer wing, etc. are easy to occur throughout the hull deck.
    Solution:

9. Water leakage at the anchor installation/opening:
    The anchoring machine is above the anchor chain bin, and the poor installation causes water leakage to the anchor chain bin, which may penetrate the windlass motor and cause the windbreaker to malfunction. Or the anchor machine has poor drainage and causes water to accumulate or flow into the chain chain.
Solution:
    a. The installation of the windlass is leaked; reinstall the anchor machine and the bolts are fixed after the glue is applied.
    b. Leakage at the opening of the anchoring machine; check the function of the drainage system and strengthen the drainage slope.
10. Subtle leakage on the surface of the bottom glass reinforced plastic:
    Due to the poor construction of the bottom of the hull, the yacht will see a slight leakage of the local area or the large area of the ship after several years of use. If the long-term penetration will cause the hull weight to increase, the cruising speed will slow down and the early aging of the FRP hull structure will be caused. .
    Solution:
    Lift the yacht to the dock or dock for a comprehensive overhaul of the FRP waterline.
11. Leakage at the bottom of the ship:
    There are many inlets and outlets in the hull below the waterline, and leakage may occur if the construction is negligent or improperly used.
    Solution:

12. Scratch and cracking of the outside of FRP during accidental collision:
    Solution:
    a. Partially small scratches; if the scratches do not damage the FRP part, first remove the surface rubber shell, fill the recessed area with the soil, re-apply the same type of rubber shell, water to #1000 or more sandpaper and then polish Waxing is done.
    b. If the scratch has already damaged the FRP part; first remove the surface rubber shell, then fill the recessed area with the glass fiber scrap and add the layer of resin. After curing, reapply the same type of rubber shell, water mill to #1000 Or the above sandpaper is polished and waxed.
    c. Cracking occurs during a collision; this is a crack caused by a severe collision and safety has been involved.
