Composite material process planning

Filament winding process is one of the manufacturing processes of resin matrix composites, which is a kind of fiber winding process under the condition of controlling tension and predetermined line type. With the application of special winding equipment, the continuous fiber or cloth tape is immersed in resin glue continuously, uniformly and regularly wound on the core mold or lining, and then solidified in a certain temperature environment to become a composite molding method for certain shape products.
The main winding processes can be divided into three kinds: dry process, wet process and semi-dry process.

1. Dry method.
The dry winding adopts the prepreg tape which is in stage B after pre-dipping. Prepreg ribbons are manufactured and provided in a special factory or workshop. During dry winding, the prepreg yarn tape should be heated and softened before winding to the core die.Because the glue content, tape size and quality of the prepreg tape can be detected and screened before winding, the quality of the product can be controlled more accurately. The production efficiency of dry winding is high, the winding speed can reach 100m / 200m / min, and the working environment is cleaner. However, the dry winding equipment is more complex and the cost is very high, and the interlaminar shear strength of the winding products is also low.

2. Wet method.
Wet winding is to wrap the fiber directly on the core die under the control of tension after the fiber is aggregated and dipped in glue, and then solidified and molded. The equipment for wet winding is relatively simple, but because the gauze is wound immediately after soaking, it is difficult to control and test the glue content of the product in the process of winding, and at the same time, when the solvent in the adhesive solution is cured, it is easy to form bubbles, pores and other defects in the product. The tension is also difficult to control when winding. At the same time, workers operate in solvent volatile atmosphere and fiber short hair flying environment, and the working conditions are poor.

3. Semi-dry method.
Compared with the wet process, the semi-dry method is to add a set of drying equipment on the way from the fiber dipping to the winding to the core mold, and basically drive out the solvent in the gauze glue solution. Compared with the dry method, the semi-dry method does not rely on a complete set of complex pre-impregnation process equipment. Although the glue content of the product is as difficult to control accurately as the wet method and has a set of intermediate drying equipment than the wet method, the labor intensity of the workers is greater, but the defects such as bubbles and pores in the products are greatly reduced.

The three methods have their own characteristics, and the wet winding method is the most widely used because of its relatively simple requirements for equipment and low manufacturing cost.
