The macromolecular compounds containing two or more epoxy groups in the molecular structure are collectively called epoxy resins, and the epoxy groups are located at the end, middle or cyclic structure of the molecular chain. 1. Development history of epoxy resin.
The development of epoxy resin has experienced a long time. As early as 1891, Lindmann in Germany reacted with epichlorohydrin with hydroquinone to form a resin and cured it with anhydride, but its value has not been revealed. In 1930, Pierre Castan in Switzerland and S.O.Greenlee in the United States were further studied and cured with organic polyamines, showing high bonding strength, which led to the discovery of its application value. In 1938, P.Castam of Switzerland applied for a patent. In 1947, Devoe-Raynolds Company of the United States opened up the technical history of epichlorohydrin-bisphenol A resin, and the industrial development of epoxy resin began. Soon CIBA of Switzerland, Shell of the United States and Dow began the industrial production and application development of epoxy resin. In China, the industrial production of epoxy resin began in 1958.
2. Classification of epoxy resins.
Epoxy resins are generally divided into five categories: glycidyl ether epoxy resins, glycidyl ester epoxy resins, glycidylamine epoxy resins, linear aliphatic epoxy resins and alicyclic epoxy resins.
3. Advantages of epoxy resin and its cured products:
The main results are as follows: 1) the bonding strength is high, because the system contains active polar groups such as epoxy group, hydroxyl group, ether bond, amine bond, ester bond and so on, which has high bonding strength to metal, ceramic, glass, concrete, wood and so on.
2) the curing shrinkage is small, phenolic resin 8-10%, silicone resin 6-8%, polyester resin 4-8%, epoxy resin 1-3%. The shrinkage of modified epoxy resin can be reduced to 0.1-0.3%.
3) excellent chemical stability, acid resistance, alkali resistance, salt resistance, oil impregnation resistance, used as anti-corrosion primer, used as oil tanker, aircraft oil tank lining, etc.
4) the electrical insulation is good, and the breakdown voltage of epoxy resin is larger than that of 35kv/mm.

4. Application field of epoxy resin.
1) coating industry: epoxy resin needs the largest amount in the coating industry, and waterborne coatings, powder coatings and high solid coatings are widely used at present. It can be widely used in pipeline containers, automobiles, ships, aerospace, electronics, toys, handicrafts and other industries.
2) Electronic and electrical industry: epoxy resin adhesive can be used in electrical insulation materials, such as rectifier, transformer, sealing protection of electronic components, insulation treatment and bonding of mechanical and electrical products, sealing bonding of storage battery; Surface coating of capacitors, resistors and inductors.
3) hardware ornaments, handicrafts, sporting goods industry: can be used in signs, ornaments, trademarks, hardware, rackets, fishing gear, sporting goods, handicrafts and other products.
4) Optoelectronic industry: can be used for light emitting diode (LED), digital tube, pixel tube, electronic display screen, LED lighting and other products packaging, pouring and bonding.
5) Construction industry: it will also be widely used in roads, bridges, floors, iron and steel structures, buildings, wall coatings, dikes, engineering construction, cultural relics repair and other industries.
6) Adhesives, sealants and composite materials, such as the bonding of wind turbine blades, handicrafts, ceramics, glass and other substances, the composite of carbon fiber sheet, the sealing of microelectronic materials and so on.
