The flame retardancy of unsaturated polyester resins is due to the fact that glass reinforced plastics are mostly used as building materials for furniture and transportation equipment. Therefore, it is required to use a flame retardant polyester resin.
Flame retardant polyester resins can be classified into three broad categories, as well as additive, reactive and expandable fire barrier coatings. The specific practices are:
(1) using a halogen element as one of the components;
(2) The halogen element is used in combination with a nitrogen group element such as phosphorus or bismuth to enhance the flame retardancy of the unsaturated polyester resin;
(3) using an aqueous polyester resin to enhance the flame retardancy of the polyester resin;
(4) adding phosphide to promote the flame retardancy of the polyester resin;
(5) The use of inorganic fillers, especially water containing alumina.
The flame retardancy of the unsaturated polyester resin can be diluted by a single or a reactive monomer, and the room temperature changes, and the flame retardancy of the unsaturated polyester resin also changes.
The flame retardant polyester resin has been put into industrial production in Europe, America and Japan, accounting for about 50% of the polyester resin production. Polyester resin is no problem in China's industrial production process.
The shrinkage of unsaturated polyester resin generally means that after curing, the volume shrinkage of the resin reaches 7~8%, which directly affects the quality and appearance of the product. This makes the quality and appearance of the polyester resin less than what we require. The main method for producing low shrinkage polyester resins is to add thermoplastic polymers such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polymethacrylate, and DAP polyester.
