Basic Properties Of FRP

Jul 15, 2020

(1) Light weight and high strength

The specific gravity of FRP is only 1.4-2.0, that is, only 1/4-1/6 of ordinary steel, which is about 1/3 lighter than aluminum, but the mechanical strength can hit or exceed the level of ordinary carbon steel, such as some The tensile strength and bending strength of epoxy and unsaturated polyester glass fiber reinforced plastic can reach more than 400Mpa. According to the specific strength calculation, it has reached or exceeded the level of some special alloy steels. This not only requires the aerospace and other military departments to reduce their weight. It is of great significance in application, and can be used as the main structural material of effective anticorrosive equipment, with the advantages of convenient transportation, installation and maintenance.

(2) Excellent chemical resistance

The electrochemical corrosion mechanism of FRP and ordinary metals is different. It is not conductive, and no ions will be dissolved in the electrolyte solution. Therefore, it has good chemical stability to the atmosphere, water, and general concentrations of acids, alkalis, salts and other media. It has good adaptability in the medium of strong non-oxidizing acid and a relatively wide range of PH value. In the past, some mediums that could not be used with stainless steel, such as hydrochloric acid, chlorine gas, carbon dioxide, dilute sulfuric acid, sodium hypochlorite and sulfur dioxide, etc., Now it can be solved well with FRP.

(3) Excellent electrical performance

FRP is an excellent electrical insulation material. Equipment made of FRP does not have electrochemical corrosion and stray current corrosion. It can be widely used in the manufacture of insulated parts in instruments, motors and electrical appliances to improve the reliability of electrical equipment and Extend its service life; in addition, FRP has good dielectric properties and microwave permeability under high-frequency effects, and is an excellent material for manufacturing a variety of high-frequency insulating products such as radomes.
