At the 6th Asian Wind Energy Conference just concluded, industry experts believe that gradually replacing the currently widely used epoxy resin with a more cost-effective vinyl resin will become the future development trend of wind power blades.
Xiao Shuangyin, an engineer at Shangwei Wind Power Materials Co., Ltd., pointed out in a survey conducted by the Hunan branch of Kebao Chemical that the most prominent advantage of using vinyl resin to replace epoxy resin is to reduce the cost of blades. The cost of blades accounts for 20% to 30% of the cost of the entire power plant, so material selection is crucial. The current price of vinyl resin is about 30 yuan/kg, and epoxy resin is about 40 yuan/kg. Only the replacement of the blade material can reduce the cost by about 10%.
DSM Composites Group Jinling DSM Resin Co., Ltd. technicians said that 10% is only a very conservative estimate. After the blade main material is replaced, the supporting products such as gel coat and other surface protection layers will also be changed accordingly, and the saving effect will also be considerable. In addition, the cost of the mold accounts for a high proportion in the blade production. After the material is replaced, there is no need for post-curing and other treatments, which will greatly improve the efficiency of the mold. Take the 1.5MW blade as an example, the cost of the mold is about 3 million to 4 million yuan. It takes about two days to produce a blade with epoxy resin as the base material, while the vinyl resin is only one day.
She also proposed another advantage of vinyl resin instead of epoxy resin, namely good processability. Vinyl resin can directly replace epoxy resin without changing the original epoxy resin molding structure design. At the same time, because vinyl resin is similar to unsaturated polyester resin which is the main material of another blade, it can also learn from the mature technology of the existing unsaturated resin to prepare the blade. In addition, vinyl resin has the mechanical and mechanical properties of epoxy resin, and various performance indicators such as fatigue resistance and rigidity can fully meet the design requirements. Moreover, the composite material is really used on the blades of the wind turbine, and the performance index of the vinyl resin and glass fiber after reasonable matching is not lower than that of the epoxy system composite material.
Xiao Shuangyin also affirmed the performance of vinyl resin. He told reporters that vinyl resin has been widely used in ships and yachts, and its performance has been confirmed by many parties.
It is understood that although vinyl resin has great advantages, its application development is still in its infancy, and domestic and foreign companies are actively carrying out research on the application of vinyl resin on blades. Restricted by various factors, the real large-scale commercial production will take time. However, many blade manufacturers such as Danish Elm Fiberglass Products Co., Ltd. and AVIC Huiteng Company have begun to consider or embark on the application of vinyl resin.
