Isophthalic acid type is a gel coating resin based on isophthalic acid type polyester, and its cured product has better mechanical properties, toughness, heat resistance and corrosion resistance. Bisphenol A type gel coat resin is synthesized by adduct of diphenol-based propane and propylene oxide instead of a part of glycol, and then by polycondensation reaction with dibasic acid. This type of resin has excellent corrosion resistance and heat resistance after curing, and has been used as a temperature-resistant and corrosion-resistant gel coat.

Vinyl ester type gel coat resin is a kind of thermosetting resin with unsaturated double bond at the end group which is prepared by addition polymerization of unsaturated acid and epoxy compound. Such resins are usually made by reacting acrylic or methacrylic acid with different types of epoxy resins. The significant advantage of this resin is its excellent corrosion resistance. Its acid resistance exceeds amine cured epoxy resins, and its alkali resistance exceeds acid cured epoxy resins and unsaturated polyester resins. It also has good toughness and glass fiber permeability.
