On The New Changes Of Unsaturated Resin Industry Layout Under The Pressure Of Environmental Protection And Safety

Jun 06, 2020

When the industry talks about the industrial layout of unsaturated polyester resins, people will always talk about the experience of European and American countries, that is, the number of independent unsaturated resin production companies is decreasing, the industry concentration is increasing, and finally a relative market of several oligarchs is formed. monopoly. Therefore, people believe that this development model will also appear in China, but it is only a matter of time.

In the current Chinese market, there are about 130-160 unsaturated resin manufacturers. After the industry integration, how many companies will become survivors? I am afraid that many people in the industry have thought about this problem, but it is difficult to get a clear answer.

With the continuous strengthening of the implementation of national environmental protection laws, especially the relevant regulations on the compulsory relocation of chemical production enterprises into chemical zones, the unsaturated resin industry has begun a prelude to large integration, and some enterprises have been forced to shut down and new The production capacity of park enterprises has doubled, the scale of monomer enterprises is increasing, and the nominal production capacity of the entire industry has increased dramatically. A large number of production enterprises with an annual output of 100,000 tons of unsaturated resins have risen. It seems that the situation of giants monopolizing the market is gradually taking shape. Will China really follow the development path of oligopoly markets like Europe and the US?

There are two important factors in the European and American countries that can form the current oligopolistic market structure. One is the influence of environmental protection laws, and the other is the promotion of capital forces.

At present, there is a phenomenon that deserves high attention. That is, more and more washing plants are closed by the government, and the cleaning of used resin packaging drums will face unprecedented difficulties. Just this is enough to change the development pattern of the entire unsaturated resin industry. As we all know, the average profit of a ton of general-purpose phthalate/bicyclic resin is about 200-300 yuan, and the packaging cost of a ton of resin is 400-450 yuan. Once the recycling barrels cannot be cleaned at the resin production site, it is bound to force the resin factory to adopt the sales method with packaging, which greatly increases the cost burden of downstream users, and also seriously weakens the price competitiveness of long-distance transportation sales. From this we can deduce that the amount of resin sold in tons of packaging will rise sharply, and the sales form of resin transported by tank trucks or container tanks will soon appear. However, in this way, the effective coverage radius of resin sales will be It will be greatly shortened from the current 1,000 kilometers to 300 kilometers, and those production enterprises that concentrate huge capacity in one place will inevitably lose the competitiveness of long-distance sales. Therefore, due to the increase in packaging costs, the scale advantage of a single production place of a resin company may become its huge burden, and thus become uneconomical in scale. In this environment of legal supervision, it is a wise choice to be as close as possible to downstream users and to establish production bases in areas where downstream demand markets are concentrated. Therefore, we can see that in Europe and the United States, although each resin production enterprise has a relatively large overall scale, their production plants are quite scattered. The production capacity of each plant is 2-3 million tons, and rarely exceeds 5 Ten thousand tons of resin factory. This is the result of national environmental protection legal governance.

In addition to the impact of packaging costs, the country's gradual strengthening of the transportation supervision of chemical dangerous goods will also be an important factor in increasing the cost of long-distance transportation. At present, most of the transportation of unsaturated resin products in China is carried out as non-dangerous goods. In order to achieve the purpose of evading supervision, many resin factories adopt methods such as not labeling, changing product names or even painting them as "flame retardants". Reduce transportation costs. Then this method of stealing beams and replacing pillars will not last long. As the domestic social security situation continues to deteriorate, the government's supervision of chemical transportation will also be stricter. It is an inevitable trend to transport unsaturated resins in accordance with dangerous goods standards. However, in this way, the cost of long-distance transportation will increase greatly, which will bring greater difficulties to the market operation of large-scale production enterprises in one place.

It can be seen from this that the future development model of the unsaturated resin industry is not concentrated mass production, but decentralized production. In other words, taking into account the scale effect of intensive large-scale production and the requirements of environmental protection laws and regulations, several large-scale resin manufacturers set up production plants in different regions, and conduct large-scale operations in marketing, raw material procurement, etc. In theory, the development model is the best choice for unsaturated resins in the future.
