Unsaturated polyester resin Polyester resin, as one of the three thermosetting resins, is the most commonly used thermosetting resin. It is composed of saturated dibasic acid and unsaturated dibasic acid. A linear polymer formed by polycondensation with a diol is a resin solution with a certain viscosity formed by dilution with a cross-linking monomer or an active solvent, referred to as UPR.
Under the production of unsaturated polyester resin by American Rubber Company in 1942, unsaturated polyester resin has experienced more than 60 years of development. During this period, unsaturated polyester resin products have developed rapidly both in terms of output and technological level. At present, unsaturated polyester resin products have developed into one of the largest varieties in the thermosetting resin industry.
In 1986, my country began to introduce unsaturated resin production technology from the United States, Japan, Britain, Italy, Norway, Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands. The production capacity and output of unsaturated polyester resin increase year by year. To this day, my country has surpassed the United States to become the country with the largest output and consumption of unsaturated polyester resins in the world. The production base of Tianjin Rector Group is the production base with the largest UPR capacity (500,000 tons/year) in the world.
At present, there are nearly 200 unsaturated resin manufacturers in China. With the increasing demand in the Chinese market, in addition to the expansion of domestic resin companies Yabang, Tianhe, Futian, Huaxun, etc., foreign-funded enterprises include DSM, Huari, Ashland, etc. have also carried out layouts to expand capacity and increase production. AOC in the United States, Crayville in France, UPAK in Japan, Recold in the United States, Langel in Italy, and Gimanzoli in Germany have also landed in China to build factories. .
Some experts predict that the future market demand for unsaturated resins in my country will further increase, and its main application areas have the following three aspects:
Glass fiber reinforced plastics (glass fiber reinforced plastic), accounting for 55 to 60% of the total, the main products: winding forming tubes, cans; SMC/BMC products; pultrusion forming products, hand lay-up FRP products, etc.;
Casting field, accounting for 25-30% of the total, main products: artificial stone, handicrafts, buttons, etc.; coating field, accounting for about 10% of the total, main products: coatings, putty, anti-corrosion floors, etc.;
In other fields, accounting for 1 to 5% of the total, the main products: anchoring agents, casting transformers, toughening agents, adhesives, etc.
Because the unsaturated polyester resin has excellent mechanical properties, electrical properties and corrosion resistance, and can be cured at room temperature, the processing technology is simple, so it is widely used in industry, agriculture, construction, defense industry, daily necessities and other fields.
